Lauraceae

  • This family is native to the tropics, parts of Asia and the Mediterranean.
  • They thrive in sheltered conditions but will also grow on poor soil.
  • A number of oils from this family are hazardous although oils used in aromatherapy such as Rosewood are very gentle.
  • Generally these essential oils tend to be anti fungal, antiviral with tonic and stimulating properties.
  • Often the whole tree contains essential oils.
