Sources
of Essential Oils |
Essential
oils are volatile chemicals of plant origin. They are not single chemical
substances but mixtures, sometimes containing several hundred different
chemicals. It is the combined action of these chemicals which gives
the oil its therapeutic value. The composition of the oil can vary
depending on factors such as the exact variety of plant, how it is
grown and harvested and method of extraction. Since variation
in composition can seriously affect the action of the oil, it is important
to know as much about the source of the oil as possible.
